Jean Stobée (Grèce - Ve siècle et VIe siècle)
Ioannis Stobaei Sententiae ex thesauris graecorum delectae, quarum autores, circiter C C L. citat: & in sermones siue locos communes digestae. A [Conrado Gesnero ... in Latinum sermonem traductae
Apud Seb. Gryphium; (Lyon, France), 1555.

Translator: Conrad Gesner (1516-1565), Swiss, known for his work as a humanist polygraph. Several of his encyclopaedic works are considered seminal. His Historiae animalium (1551-1558) was the first work of modern zoology to describe all known animals. His Bibliotheca universalis (1545) was the first bibliographic catalogue of printed works from the first century of printing in Europe.

Author: Jean Stobée, in Latin Ioannes Stobaeus, a native, according to his name, of Stobi (Macedonia), of which Stobæus was the gentilice, was a Greek doxographer and compiler of late antiquity (5th century). His Anthology has left us numerous, sometimes exclusive, fragments of ancient Greek authors.

A rare 466-year-old work published in Lugduni (Lyon) of the "Florilegium" or "Sermones" by Stobaeus*, devoted to moral, political and economic topics, and maxims of practical wisdom; it deals with ethics (virtues and vices, in pairs) and more general ethical and political topics
