Beautiful and rare Baga marmot representing a bird with an elongated beak, the beak is sculpted in the extension in a dynamic way.
The bird mask was used in every Baga subgroup, but also among the Susu, the Nalu and the Landuma, attesting of the borrowing phenomenon between different groups, as well as the intensive circulation of these objects along the coast of Guinea. In the past, it appeared after the harvest, during nocturnal recreative dances (...) and during post-initiatory rejoicings. (In. David Berliner, Baga - Mémoires religieuses, p. 90)
