Cornelis Raaphorst initially specialised in painting still lifes, flowers and landscapes. After that, his main subject became playing kittens. He painted them in all their glory, surrounded by colourful drapes and expensive utensils. Source of inspiration must have been the work of Henriëtte Ronner-Knip, although he developed an entirely individualistic style.
The painting offered shows 4 kittens playing standing on two jewellery boxes. This is a very beautiful spectacle.
Condition: the frame has a few bits of damage. (see photos).
The painting has been professionally restored and re-canvassed a few years ago.
This work comes from a private collection.
