Condition: fair. The binding is damaged on the spine (see picture). Some parts of the book are quite foxed (see pictures). All engravings are shown in the pictures.
Because Klikspaan's work originally appeared in loose instalments, no first edition is the same and they are always in a different binding. Included in the back of the book is “De Studenten-Almanak : eene microscopische uitspanning” by Klikspaan.
Klikspaan is the pseudonym of Johannes Kneppelhout (1814-1885). His best-known work is Studenten-typen from 1841. In this collection of stories, Klikspaan sketches twelve types of students, with all their habits and peculiarities. The descriptions are partly based on Kneppelhout's own experiences, but he also used descriptions sent to him by others.
In 1844 the collection Studentenleven appeared. In this book Klikspaan not only described types of students, but also other phenomena related to studying and student life. The stories are often funny, but they also contain criticism of the academic world and everything related to it.
