Work illustrated with an engraved frontispiece portrait of Louis XV after Cochin.

Barbier attributes this work to the president de Levy, who would have been president of the Court of Aid (Barbier, II, 1035; see also in this sense Quérard, vol. VI, p. 284). The edition cited is that of 1766, by Prault, but it seems that there were several formats at that time. It is difficult to verify the correctness of Barbier's information. Similarly, the pamphlet does not employ a satirical form. Instead, it was really intended to be a day-to-day record of the events of the reign of Louis XV, at least until 1764. The author's intention was undoubtedly chronological, and this time the writing was in favour of Louis XV. Thus, the introduction points out that "this work, which brings together the splendours of the reign of Louis XV, was prompted by the praise bestowed on the reign of Louis XIV: it aroused jealousy and involuntary emulation in favour of the king's reign". In this respect, the document is a source of important information, all the more so as it is accompanied by an impressive alphabetical table of contents listing the names and main facts of the reign of the man known as the Beloved, and on the two parties. Consequently, the work was undoubtedly a valuable source of material for libellists of all kinds in the 18th century.

A lovely copy.
