Alessandro Maffei (Scuola) IL RIPOSO
Oil on canvas - Hand-Signed - 20th century
Alessandro Maffei, a Siena artist, who lived between 1790 and 1859. His high academic training allows him to achieve the highest levels of naturalism and atmospheric performance.
Flowers as a very subject begin to appear in “still lifes”, a kind that emerged in the early 17th century. Later, painters' attention to the floral world, especially with the Impressionists, became increasingly important, as an extraordinary opportunity to capture chromatic and luminous vibrations. Thus, flowers begin to appear not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. If, at the beginning of its history, it was an excuse for painters to try a photographic reproduction of reality, with Contemporary Art the subject of flowers also becomes a way of interpreting reality.
