Alexander Altmann (1878-1932)
Ukraine - France, Paris school
Jewish painter born in Sobolevka (Ukraine) and deceased in Nemours (France).
He was educated in Odessa, from where he travelled to Vienna and then to Paris (Académie Julien in 1900) and where he joined La Ruche’s workshop, in 1905. He exhibited his works at the Salons des Indépendants (1910-1920) ), Tuileries (1908) and Salons d'Automne (1908-1924). A landscaper, sometimes he also painted still lifes. One of the representatives of the Ecole de Paris, passionate about Impressionism all his life.
His narrow compositions, cutting the visual world are characterized by vivid and saturated colors.
