Pair of elegant sosaku kokeshi whose name "Hidamari", meaning "Sunny Place", is perfectly recalled by the delicate floral decoration in light tones painted on the bust of each work. They have a very refined rounded shape, and are distinguished by the enhancement of the natural grain of the wood and the gentle, graceful expression of the faces.
This is an original model by the artist Kato Masami (1925), vintage, dating back to the 1980s.
The wife of Narugo master Kato Shimichi, Kato Masami, took up the art of kokeshi at a young age, under the guidance of her husband, and soon developed her own highly appreciated creative style. She has received many awards for her artistic work, including the prestigious 'Prime Minister's Award', the most coveted award for kokeshi artists.
These vintage kokeshi are in good overall condition, with some light signs of time such as light specks on the wood.
