Intact new Festina jersey signed by French folk hero Richard Virenque.
Virenque started his professional career in 1991 and broke through a year later in the Tour de France when he was the youngest participant to wear the yellow jersey for one day and the polka-dot jersey for many days. Two years later he reaffirmed his status by winning a stage in the Tour, finishing fifth in the overall classification and wearing the polka-dot jersey to Paris. In the three years that followed he won the polka-dot jersey and one stage every year. In addition, he finished third in 1996 and second in 1997, making him the first Frenchman since Laurent Fignon to take the Tour podium. Virenque was a big favourite for the final victory in 1998.
