Josep Berga y Boix (25th October 1837 – 8th October 1914), also popularly known as Grandpa Berga, was a Catalan landscape painter who, influenced by the Barbizon school, founded the school of painting of Olot with his friend Joaquim Vayreda. He was a teacher of drawing of the Centro Artístico, core of the Olot school, and principal for 7 years of the drawing school of the same city. He is also known as a writer of several publications. To a lesser extent he devoted himself to the sculpture of religious imagery in the company Arte Cristiano, where he was manager from its foundation in 1880 until he left the society in 1892.
