The fascinating and evocative iconography of satyrs is inherited by Western pictorial culture from the world of Greek and Roman classics.
Great masters since the 1500s have been attracted by this evocative figure, among them Rubens and Carracci.
This rare painting is probably attributable to a European master active in Italy in the 16th-17th century.
The complexion of the female figure, decidedly pale, and the almost indifferent static gaze lead us to think that the painting is of late sixteenth-century creation.
Even the presence of male phallus combines the painting with a purer neoclassicism, more deeply close to the references of Roman classicism, in fact in the Baroque we will see a greater interpretative subjectivity and an emotion of the characters not yet present in the 16th century.
The painting bears the monogram on the left J.L. Fe, which undoubtedly confirms the authorship of the painting of a non-Italian artist.
After the tests performed we can guarantee the authenticity of the work and we will include a certificate of authenticity issued by our gallery with photos, as required by the law.
