Grüber (1912-1948) is a French expressionist painter. Son of Art nouveau glassmaster Jacques Grüber, he favours human figures with chiselled and raw features. He is one of the few representatives of the expressionist movement in France. He was mainly influenced by Jérôme Bosch, Albrecht Durer, Mathias Grenewald and the Lorraine engraver Jacques Callot. He is awarded the National Painting Award in 1947. Louis Aragon made his funeral oration and Alberto Giacometti designed his grave.
