Beschreibung
Walross - Walross Ivory Fossil Tooth - Odobenus Rosmarus - 48×17×14 mm
300.000 anni - Alaska

Beautiful fossil tooth of walrus, a rare object to include in your collection.
Walrus ivory is like woolly mammoth ivory, buried in the icy ground along the Arctic coast or preserved in the icy waters of the Behring Sea. While fossil walrus ivory may be newer than mammoth ivory (walrus ivory that has been buried for several hundred years may be classified as a fossil) it may also be significantly older: palaeontologists have dated the fossil ivory walrus back to 300,000 years. As with mammoth ivory, walrus ivory is still the organic material but takes on colour if buried.
