Ammolite is a rare material, of gem quality and iridescent.
It is derived from fossilized shells of extinct ammonites (ancient sea creatures) that are only found in the Bearpaw formation in Alberta, Canada.
With a wide range of dazzling colours and patterns, this organic gem is highly desired by all collectors.
Ammolite is part of the family of the aragonite fossils.
Its lamellar structure generates an opalescence that resembles the opal.
It has a hardness of 4 on Mohs scale, while its density value is 2.75/2.80.
