Beschreibung
Jules Verne - Le phare du bout du monde - 1906
Illustriert, Literatur, Reisen - Anzahl: 1 - Polychrome Gravuren - Buch

This first edition, by Jules Verne, called "Acanthus leaves", is illustrated with 33 illustrations including a frontispiece and 6 large polychrome engravings. The author tells the story of the construction by the State of Argentina of a lighthouse called "The Lighthouse at the End of the World" on the Isla de los Estados, located at the end of the Tierra del Fuego, between the Atlantic and the Pacific. Three guards are working on this uninhabited and inhospitable land to avoid merchant ships from sinking. Their work is affected by pirates coming to the island for looting stranded ships and slaughtering the surviving sailors.

The "Acanthus leaves" cover is the last binding of the Hetzel collection of single volumes. The golden macaroon attests to the first print, probably in 1906.

Volume in beautiful condition - Beautiful front and back covers - The spine has not faded - Old restoration of a 3 cm crack in the tail’s percaline - Sharp and virtually not rubbed corners - Homogeneous but warped volume, the back cover protruding on a few millimetres - Fresh overall with some light and scattered spots of foxing.
