Petrus Cornelis Constant (Piet) Wiegman (Zwolle 18 April 1885 - Alkmaar 30 September 1963) was a Dutch painter, graphic designer, ceramist and puppeteer. Just like his brother Mathieu, he represented the Bergen School. His brother Jan was an illustrator and designer.
From 1938 until his death, Wiegman lived in Groet (North Holland), the same village where the owner of this bowl lives. She received it as a gift from Piet Wiegman. When Wiegman's daughter, Doortje Haan-Wiegman, came to visit (she also still lives in Groet), she was surprised when she saw the bowl and she recognised it as one of her father's creations.
The bowl is handmade in red chamotte clay and decorated by hadn with black glazed line and dot-shaped notches. On the interior of the edge, small light-coloured stones have been placed into the clay. The whole is covered with transparent glaze. At the bottom, the bowl is signed 'PW Proet'. He probably meant 'Groet'.
The bowl will be shipped as a registered parcel.
