The work is on display at art dealership Martins in 2018 at 2e Exloërmond (Drenthe) and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Gijsbertus Johannes van Overbeek (Dordrecht, 19th July, 1882 - Rotterdam, 25th February 1947) was a Dutch illustrator, painter, draftsman and bookbinder designer. He worked in Hillegersberg till 1947. He was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam. He created paintings of harbour views, landscapes, cityscapes but above all he became known for his dozens of works with images of working horses such as a horse or horses for a cart. He also worked for various publishers such as the Nederlands Boekhuis and J.M. Bredee as an illustrator and book binding designer. He also made drawings for the children's monthly magazine ‘Ons Thuis’ by Henriëtte Dietz and Katharina Leopold. Van Overbeek was a member of De Onafhankelijken in Amsterdam.
