Beautiful work by Hendrik Weegewijs. Representation of a (very likely) Larens interior with a woman mending socks in traditional costume.
The image is signed in full on the bottom left.
Canvas was recently cleaned and newly varnished.
Painting is in a nice bronze-coloured Baroque frame.
The frame has light signs of wear (see photos), but is still great, presentable condition and can thus be put on the wall immediately.
Henry Weegewijs was born in 1875 in Nieuwer-Amstel (now Amstelveen). He died in Soest in 1964. He worked and lived in, amongst others, Buiksloot, Edam, Volendam, Gasselte, Assen, Drouwen, Gent, Blaricum, Laren, Amsterdam, Hilversum and Eemnes.
Student of the national academy of fine arts in Amsterdam, under leadership of August Allebé, C.L. Dake, F.K.A.C. Leenhoff and N. van der Waay. He painted, made watercolours, drew and etched landscapes, village views, children and still lifes.
The painting will be packed carefully and - at the expense and risk of the buyer - sent by registered post by PostNL.
