First edition and of one of the 350 copies on Holland paper by Van Gelder (this one is No.200). Half leather binding with ribbed spine adorned with lovely gilded stamping, Gilded top edge and original covers preserved.
A fairly well-preserved copy: friction from use on the crowns with some lacks. Lightly split joints. Fresh inside.
Jean Tharaud and his brother Jérôme (1874-1953), were born in Saint-Junien in Haute-Vienne, but spent their youth in Angoulême.
For fifty years they will work together, always signing their two first names, the younger one in charge of the first draft, the elder one, Jérôme, responsible for the editing. Tireless travellers, they travelled to many countries, Palestine, Iran, Morocco, Romania, and brought back from their travels the material for reports and books.
