The painter Jan Jacob Coenraad Spohler was born on 17 October 1837 in Amsterdam. He died on 28th June, 1894 in Amsterdam. For most of his life, he lived and worked in his hometown. He was a student and son of J.J. Spohler (1811 - 1866). Spohler sr. painted mostly summer and winter landscapes, especially scenes showing recreational fun with many figures. The young Spohler worked in the same style, he painted corresponding topics. He was a very good pupil. Spohler exhibited his work regularly, among other things, on the exhibitions of ‘Levende Meesters’. Exhibitions of his work were held in Rotterdam and Groningen.
J.J.C. Spohler has often signed his later work with the name J. C. Corver. Several museums in our country possess work by J.J.C. Spohler, including the Haags Gemeentemuseum.
