Born in Nagoya. Also known as Sotarou,Gekka. Begins to study under Okumura Sekiran in the Shijo School. Later, he went up to Kyoto to study under Mori Kansai.
He also learned waka poetry under the name of Chokudo. He was a director of the Nagoya society of painters. Died in 1906 (Meiji 39) at the age of 50.
