Two-panel byobu screen with a high quality nicely detailed painting depicting the Chinese immortal Liu Hai (known in Japan as Gama sennin, the Toad Immortal). Please look a the close up pictures! He is sitting near a waterfall, while his magic white toad sits in front of him in the water. The Japanese legend of Gama Sennin (蝦蟇仙人 "Toad Immortal") is based upon Chinese Liu Hai, a fabled 10th-century alchemist who learned the secret of immortality from Chan Chu ("Three-legged Money Toad"). Some old restorations and nice old brocade border with floral design.
