Okimono - Elephant ivory - With signature 'Gyokuzan' 玉山 - Peddler with cockerel - Japan - Meiji period (1868-1912)
The okimono depicting a traveling salesman (selling some sort of sticks) looking down on a cockerel on his path. The cockerel in his turn looking up but having no intention to move out of the way.
Condition: several age cracks; restoration to the feet, possibly something missing on the right shoulder. A natural flaw in the ivory incorporated in the design (right leg) but tuned black over time. The same natural flaw most likely the origin of the crack in his face.
An expert report added to confirm that the okimono can be legaly sold in the EU.
