Exceptional large black lacquered circular tray on three curved legs. Decorated with two nicely detailed goldleaf etched lobsters. With a marked large re-used wooden box. The whole items sits stable on its feet, but the tray is somewhat bended. With some superficial marks of use and old age.
When shipped a certificate of authenticity will be added.

Wajima City on the Noto Peninsula started producing high quality lacquerware products during the Edo period. A combination of Urushi tree sap, and a soil of fossilized algae called diatomaceous is what makes Noto Peninsula standout from others in the production of lacquerware (from Japan Travel)
