Antique sculpture, decorative marble architectural element depicting a ram skull; the so-called "Bucranium" is a recurring decoration in classical architecture and comes from the ancient tradition of hanging skulls of sacrificed animals (precisely oxen) around the temple.
From the Renaissance onwards, however, especially from Michelangelo, the ram bucranium was preferred to the most "pagan" ox bucranium because Christ was conceived under the Aries zodiac sign. Very good condition considering its age, intact.
