Caesar is known for keeping elaborate notes of all his campaigns. He insisted that these would be destroyed after his passing, though luckily one of his secretaries was disobedient. He pictures himself in this work as an honest, hard working soldier, without vanity, doing his best for Rome, conquering Europe.
