Our Guarantee: The above item is guarantee to be of the time period and condition as described, has been exported legally and is legal to buy and sell under all international lows to cultural patrimony.
Provenance: Former property of H. v/d G. ex. Senior director and specialist head at Christie’s.
Old private Dutch collection, J. B. Amsterdam till 2018.
The body modelled standing foursquare on a rectangular base, the horse with grooved neck and head lowered as if grazing or drinking water, and its ears laid back, modelled with a saddle and blanket, with remnants of metal fittings and the original color.
Horses modelled with bowed neck are unusual, making this exceptionally large and powerfully modelled horse all the more rare. The horse is fitted wit saddle and yet wear no other trappings, suggesting that it was once outfitted with perishable materials that have long since disappeared. The small, lean-featured head, the thick neck and the belly are typical Tang renderings of an Arabian. Also worthy of note is that the widely separated ears, both twisting backward (only few Tang horses were made like this and could be found in the present market), reveal its spirit.
