A 15th century Japanese Koto tachi transformed in the 16-17th century into a Katana by reducing the edge from around the pretty long 78-80cm to a more convenient but still long enough 68.3cm and receieved a wide and a thinner pair of groves all the way the egde given the blade a lighter was and better balanc, easier handling. The transformation was a common thing in the era of development of swords and in this case it was done very skilfuly, the groves are professionaly carved to a smooth finish, the blade is very well balanced and has great shape curvature now.
Tang is mumei with good age patination.
Sword comes in old quality shirasaya with copy of japanese registration card.
