Very rare tile depicting St. George on horseback in the act of killing the Dragon, in pink Garda marble, completely hand carved with absolute care and precision. Very special for its small size and shape. Period: 19th century.
Part of a couple, it was placed next to another work depicting St. Michael, placed on the back wall of the presbytery of a church in Venice, then moved to a private home.
Marble with fine grain and patina .
A high quality item, of excellent workmanship.
Perfect proportions, small in size and of appropriate weight. A unique and exclusive masterpiece.
Beautiful frame all around the work.
Please note the care for details (the incredible refinement of face, horse and dragon’s anatomy); the majesty of the artwork conveys strength and brightness.
Best if hung on a wall or placed on top of a sturdy and suitable tripod.
According to the legend, the saint slayed the monster who was killing people with its breath. In return, St. George asked citizens to be converted and baptised.
