We offer here a very good copy of one of the most successful cookery books of the 18th century, still a cookery reference to this day. Raffald’s terse style and tested recipes gave her lasting appeal, distinguished from the many cookery books of the time that featured untried recipes.
It includes the first known recipe for crumpets and the modern wedding cake (covered in marzipan and royal icing), as well as being one of the first cookery sources in English to mention barbecue. Many unofficial, pirated editions were published in England and abroad, demonstrating the importance of the book globally.
