A handsome portrait showing the King of Cean-Na-Coil an old country estate near the village of Aboyne in Aberdeenshire in Scotland. A successful Scottish architect George Bennett Mitchell (1865-1941) built a beautiful country house there. This striking kakemono (handpainted scroll) shows the gentleman beautifully dressed in Japanese garments with his daisho (katana and wakisashi sword) His outer garment has a family mon (crest) upon it. The beautiful Japanese countryside shows sacred Fujiyama and nature. There is a patterned braid all around and the condition is good (no tears or holes) only light spotting (brown) in places. As can be seen in last photo scroll can be rolled and professionally packed to send to successful buyer.
This type of portrait was made in Yokohama there were two workshops making them. Some were commissioned at the international exhibition where a photography was taken and than copied in Japan.
