This is a wonderful collection of late 19th Century tea towels in Chanvre ( hemp) linen and cotton.
The hemp towels and until 1920 when they were removed from the market as they had other conations also ,were used in the back pantry of Manoirs etc. F or drying the cast iron pots, copper ware etc. as they stood up to heavy ware and labour.
The remainder we have been able to rescue from lots where heavy wear and tear had "finished" theIr siblings for good and had to be disposed off So it is a mix, but very useful and to realise that they have been through so much from their conception and still in good order shows once again how well they were made in those days.
Please note ,some of them have had minor old repairs.
