Christien Meindertsma - Thomas Eyck - Hocker - t.e. 079, Flax Ottoman

Beschreibung
Christien Meindertsma - Thomas Eyck - Hocker - t.e. 079, Flax Ottoman
Niederlande - Nach dem Jahr 2000 - Flachs

The Flax Ottoman by Christien Meindersma consists only of flax rope. After no less than 140 metres of rope have been tied up, it is placed into a drying room for 2 weeks. After two weeks, the rope is completely limp and a 'ball of rope' is twisted by hand. Because the rope absorbs moisture from the air again, it expands and then regains its toughness. With a weight of no less than 24 kg, it is a pearl in your home!

Christien Meindersma combines her contemporary handwriting in perfect harmony with the traditional Dutch 16th century rope industry. By analysing the history of this craft, she has reduced the rope to the original Dutch material: flax. With the help of flax, the filaments are spun into flax yarns, after which they are turned into strands.

The flax Ottoman is included in the permanent collection of Zuiderzeemuseum Enkhuizen, among others.
