Willem Bos was born in Rotterdam in 1906. Here he also died in 1974 after a fertile artist's existence. He lived and worked in Rotterdam, Brussels, Antwerp and Paris, among others. He returned to Rotterdam in 1924.
Wim Bos formed himself. In Rotterdam he was not only inspired by the loading and unloading activities in the ports and by shipping traffic. The work of well-known Rotterdam painters such as Van Mastenbroek, Evert Moll and Marinus Drulman also stimulated him to frequently choose the port activities as the subject. He developed his own impressionistic style, which is close to that of Marinus the Younger. His harbor views breathe that typical atmosphere of the pre-war harbor, with coal firing, screaming steam whistles, rattling anchor chains in the vault hole, and squeaking and creaking cranes and loading booms.
Nice large painting by the aforementioned painter.
The painting is in perfect condition, but signs of aging are beginning to appear on it,it has hairline cracks in a few places.
It has a beautiful antique frame, making it an extremely decorative look. as we are used to this painter.
