Netsuke in wood with patina representing a craftsman sculpting a theater mask, by Kato Masayuki. He is kneeling and wearing a carefully folded robe and cap, holding a chisel in his right hand and hiding it in the left. He amusingly imitates the deformed face of the mask. Work demonstrating the perfection of the art of wooden netsukes from the Edo period. Masayuki signature under the base.
Japanese work of the late Edo / Meiji. Very good condition.
