Elkington & Co. teapot
In fair condition (with welding visible on the spout)
Elkington & Co is among the most famous names in England for silver and Sheffield plate. It was founded in 1836. In 1838, they discovered and patented a new way of plating one metal onto the surface of another.
The company immediately realized the great potential of this discovery, so it concentrated all its effort on mastering the new process.
It thus obtained a monopoly over the galvanic process, and whoever wanted to get the instructions was forced to pay a royalty.
At the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London's Hyde Park, in the Crystal Palace built specifically for the purpose, Elkington & Co exhibited its discovery. It was an enormous success.
They specialise in the production of items for common household and hotel use, especially in Renaissance style.
