The work depicts a male subject: you can really see an idealised self-portrait of the painter, who offers an image of almost provocative fierceness about himself. Dark colours, the painter made his works in a picturesque way, playing much with light and shade effects, the brick red of his coat with the white fox fur and the bottle green of his wide-brimmed hat.

Many other artists revived some works by Piazzetta Gianni Battista,
such as Marco Pitteri, also a well-known Venetian engraver of the 18th century.
