Peter Leijenaar - Liefde en genegenheid

Beschreibung
Peter Leijenaar - Liefde en genegenheid
Bronze - Signiert in der Platte - Original - 2002

Peter Leijenaar (1923), started as an advertising draughtsman. For years he taught at the Studio school in Amsterdam, of which he was the owner and director. Whoever sees his elongated figures, first thinks of Alberto Giacometti. This artist portrayed the existential loneliness of man with his fragile, elongated characters. Leijenaar is not interested in emphasising the miserable condition of man. He wants to display the search for affection and intimacy in his images. This is evident from the titles of his images: 'Reunification', 'Intimacy',.. His characters gravitate towards each other, searching each other, even though the outcome is uncertain. The stylised bodies without arms lend themselves excellently for a linear play of lines in space. The combination of abstract and expressive qualities give his sculptures a lasting appeal.

Unique piece. Purchased from Smelik & Stokking DH (2002).
