Secretaire with writing flap.
Beautiful dark mahogany wood which is polished with a deep shine.
Wax is applied with natural shellac with alcohol in thin layers with a tampon. Layer over layer over layer.
The shellac flows into a deep shiny surface.
This is special craftsmanship.
The restorers who can still do this are just as rare as this piece of furniture.
Shellac can only be found in nature, on the leaves of plants. It is the deposition of aphid.
The flap is finished with green leather on the inside.
The solid brass lock has two heavy latches.
The key can secure the flap by reversing it one time and two times the latches lock and close the drawer above the flap.
Inside it has the original inner work with small drawers.
On top a black hard stone leaf from Namen stone.
The pillars are free and have a bronze cast base ring and capital.
