A fine and impressive pair of French candlesticks attributed to the French Bronzier, Henri Houdebine, circa 1870. Houdebine specialised in classical revival pieces during the second half of the 19th century.
The candlesticks are executed in the Neo Grecque/ Grec/ Greek style and completed in bronze and ormolu parcel gilding. They have a deep patina and show signs of usage and handling.
Both candlesticks have representations of the Greek God Hermes alongside two movable ringlets.
Approximate measurements: 23 cm high x 10.5 cm wide (Approximately 1436 grams).
Unfortunately, much of Houdebine's work is unsigned, as is the case with these candlesticks. However, as can be seen on the top rim of these candlesticks, the decorative application is the same as other signed pairs of candlesticks by Houdebine.
