Tea tile, age unknown.
Measurements: 23.5 x 18.5 cm, thickness 2 cm.
With Chinese text and a representation of a pagoda and tea plants.
This tea tile has signs of age, including flaked edges, but still is entirely complete and in good condition.
On the back we see a sectioning of even parts that could be broken.
Block tea (brick tea) was transported directly from China to Russia, Turkey and Tibet, and, therefore, hardly known in the West. The tea was transported over land using horses and camels, so it was essential to package the tea as compactly as possible. The tea was compressed into tea tiles for transportation. The importance of these tiles is evident, as they also served as currency for a long period of time.
Will be packaged with care and shipped insured, also with a tracking number.
