Jan van den Abeel, born in Denderbelle in 1943 and died in Ghent in 2018, was a geometric abstract painter and structuralist, adept of the Art Construit. Screen printer. He was educated at the academy of Ghent (1959-64). Initially worked with structure studies and the creation of optical effects. Evolves into geometric abstraction in which he later processed symbolist and figurative elements. Award of the JPB (1968) and Berthe Art (1969). First individual exhibition in 1967 (Leiden). Teacher at the Academy of Ghent. Work in the museums of Brussels, Deurle, Ghent, Ostend (PMMK), London, and New York.
