Beschreibung
Pere Pruna (1904-1977) - Desnudo comiéndose las uvas
Tuschezeichnung - Handsigniert - 1932

Pere Pruna was the author of paintings such as Alegoría de la República, at the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. The vision of churches and convents on fire, with no respect to the works of art which were destroyed indiscriminately, led him to enlist in Franco’s army. Until that moment he had successfully exhibited his works in Chicago, New York and Amsterdam, among other cities. In 1936 and 1938 he did it in the Venice Biennale. Once the war was over, again in Barcelona, he perpetuated his placid and refined style from the Sala Parés, located in Barcelona.

He carried out mural paintings and other large size artworks depicting religious subjects. He stayed true to his style although -at the same time that he painted delicate nudes, he also painted experimental works with collages and he introduced other elements; in other works he dissociated the background colours with an incised figure on top. Maybe his most original contribution was the use of virgin wax in order to depict flesh (but without following the usual technique of encaustic).
