Jan Van Campenhout (Aalst, 16th December, 1907 - Snaaskerke, 19th April, 1972) was a figurative Belgian painter and graphic artist from the mid-20th century.
As a painter he created clown figures, marines, landscapes, cafe interiors and animated street scenes, whereby he sensed the optimistic atmosphere of time well. He published an album with reproductions of 25 pen drawings under the name “Historische Monumenten & Gebouwen” (Anderlecht, Aarschot, Zoutleeuw…).
He lived and worked in the 1950s and 1960s in the Van Iseghemlaan in Ostend and often exhibited there in the Art Deco café “La Coupole”.
Stylistically and in terms of content, he is very similar to Jacques Callaert from Middelkerke.
