Robert Mols was a student at the Antwerp Academy and held his first exhibition at the age of only 15. Around 1868, he worked at Barbizon.
Around 1868 he worked in Barbizon, one of the cradles of 'en plein air' painting, where he was in contact with Jean François Millet. Also Antoine Vollon (where he came almost every year) and in Rotterdam. Furthermore, he also travelled to Italy, Germany, England, Bulgaria and Turkey.
His works are achieve prices at auctions, eg. his oil on canvas "Gezicht op het Willemdok te Antwerpen" was auctioned in October 2003 for €36,000 at Bernaerts, Antwerp.

Mols was a Knight of the Order of the Crown of Leopold, the French Legion of Honour and the Knights of the Romanian Crown.

Well-known international artist.
