Elisabeth Verwoert (1836-1905) lived and worked in Amsterdam almost all her life. There she was taught art by Louis Royer and then by August Allebé. Her oeuvre included landscapes and river views, beach views (including in Katwijk aan Zee) and Amsterdam cityscapes in impressionist style. (Source: Simonis&Buunk.)
Her work is reminiscent of contemporaries such as Hendrik Willem Mesdag. The atmosphere and expression in the work appear to have great similarities to the oeuvre of this artist. The barges are awaiting a subsequent departure, but are anchored for now.
The watercolour is generally in good condition with some small stains.
Frame: framed in a gold-coloured decorative frame with glass and mat.
Signed in the lower right corner.
The work of art is of private origin.
