Josep Roca-Sastre i Muncunill (Tarrasa, 1928 – Barcelona, 1997) was a Spanish painter, the son of the lawyer Ramón María Roca Sastrey grandson of the modernist architect, Lluís Muncunill. His career as a painter began in 1956 in Paris where he spent two years on a scholarship from the Instituto Francés and where he won the First Prize in the competition Jeune Peinture. Later he continued with figurative works of urban and intimate subject-matters, with a very personal style, reflecting an interior world marked by modernism and inspired by the passageways and corners of his own studio in Barcelona’s Ensanche.
Since 1980, he became a member of the Real Academia Catalana de Bellas Artes de San Jorge of Barcelona. He obtained the Sant Jordi Prize from the Diputación Provincial of Barcelona (1966) and the honorary medal of the Salon des Artistes Français de Paris (1968), as well as the Premi Quadern from the Fundación de Amigos de las Artes y las Letras of Sabadell.
