Johann Friedrich Jamrath (1810-1891) was a painter and court photographer at the Prussian court in Germany and portrayed many members of the German imperial family as well as members of other European royal houses.
A painting by Jamrath rarely appears on the market. Photography by Jamrath is owned by the national museum in Amsterdam, NL, Metropolitan Museum of Art, USA and the National Portrait Gallery, UK.
This portrait is from 1880. In that same year, he portrayed the Empress of Germany. It shows a very self-conscious woman. Probably a lady from the higher circles of the Europe of that time. The woman shows some resemblance to Alexandra Princesse of Wales. See photo of Alexandra from 1880. She is wearing a Victorian necklace and brooch of blood coral and gold.
