Hans Baijens - Ausführliches Bild von Peter Stuyvesant
Niederlande - 1980 - Bronze

Peter Stuyvesant was the last director general of the Nieuw Nederland colony before it was conquered by the English in 1664 and New Amsterdam was transformed into New York. He played an important part in the West India Company and lost his leg in the fight against the Spaniards, which is why he is depicted here with a wooden leg. New York owes much of its early development to him, so many places and institutions are named after him.

Peter Stuyvesant was also a cigarette brand that was made in Zevenaar near Turmac. At the base of the statue is written: 1920 Turmac 1980. This statue was a promotional gift on Turmac's 60th birthday in 1980.
Turmac had one of the largest art collections in the Netherlands.
The entire collection was auctioned by Sotheby around 2005. Hans Baijens was one of the most famous sculptors in the Netherlands and he made this statue specially by order of Turmac
