The earliest works date back to 1958. In 1969 he began an intense exhibition activity, in public and private venues, in Italy and abroad.
Edi Brancolini’s activity has exceeded 40 years and he is not tired.
Since the beginning, it was research and curiosity that guided him, his talent to meet his expressive needs and his determination to enrich his ever-growing cultural background.
Important, in this sense, are the years of the ‘Scuola libera del nudo’ in Venice and especially, Luigi Tito’s teachings, who trained him in the constant and consistent practice of life drawing, and maybe guided the next figurative step, after a short informal experience.
The 1970s paintings have a social-existential setting that sometimes borders on dreamlike hallucination.
While the technical virtuosity reaches high levels, the symbolic vocabulary is complicated by suggesting in the narration many possible keys to interpretation, in a surreal and destabilising semantic stratification. Painting thus becomes hermetic and raises questions for the viewer. The palette of the last few years becomes lighter and begins to cover acidic and saturated colours on timeless backgrounds. Colours act as participants in the action depicted in the pantomime of this hedonistic society observed by the artist with ironic detachment.
